Virtuoso jazz guitarist Bill Murphy in the San Francisco Bay Area

I enjoy playing solo guitar, and enjoy how intimate it can be in duets and trios.  But when an event needs upbeat energy I bring larger bands featuring great Bay Area players.  I also compose music for all these musical formats...
Folk-style original piece, My Heart Wags to See Your Face from my second album Art Installation

Performing Embraceable You with vocalist Moy Eng, my longtime duet partner who also fronts her band Black Orchid.  This recording features violinist Marty Honda and saxophonist Jon Familant.

Solo jazz guitar, performing an unnamed blues inspired by my hero Joe Pass - he is my all time favorite guitarist and the reason I study this instrument.  I only saw him perform once in 1974, at an afternoon musical clinic in San Francisco with the great Texas guitarist Herb Ellis.  But the relaxed way just the two of them played - at virtuoso level with no backup band - has never left my ear, and set an ideal for me to honor and to study seriously.

Duet with superb Bay Area acoustic bassist Paul Collins, performing Alone Together

Duet with Munich-based singer Andrea Fultz, performing Rosa Morena
